TOP 10: Most Instagrammed Festivals of 2015

From the love/hate Miley Cyrus claiming the title of most mentioned artist to the newly crowned pop princess Taylor Swift leading the way with the most followers, it's been an eventful year for music on Instagram.

The official figures are in on the most Instagrammed music festivals (all in the USA), highlighting some top picks for next summer's festival season.

#10 - Stagecoach Country Music Festival

American flags and cowboy hats galore, 2015 was a vibrant 10th birthday for Stagecoach as many gathered to pose in their Daisy Dukes, take part in mass line dances, and enjoy sets from Carrie Underwood, Eric Church and Luke Bryan along with cameos of stars from hit TV show Nashville.

#9 - Electric Zoo

With a lineup featuring The Chemical Brothers, Alesso and Above & Beyond, this summer's edition was a successful full three-day return for New York's massive EDM party. Art installations almost turned the site into a literal zoo with floral elephants, zebra-costumed performers on stilts, and loads more eccentric performance alongside the headline acts.

#8 - Bonnaroo

Also the most Instagrammed location in Tennessee state, Bonnaroo wasn't short of highlights such as a surprise appearance from Mad Men's Jon Hamm during Belle & Sebastian's set, and plenty of praise thrown at Kendrick Lamar, Alabama Shakes, and Against Me!

#7 - Ultra Music Festival Miami

Billboard memorably said that "if this year's Ultra Music Festival had a theme, it was cross-genre collaboration" as cameos were out in full force with appearances from Ariana Grande and Usher, as well as Skrillex's closing set featuring performances from Justin Bieber, Puff Daddy, Diplo and Kiesza.

#6 Lollapalooza 

Set against Florence Welch joyfully running topless through the crowd, and a triumphant return from Metallica after their controversial appearance in 1996, the stormy inconsistent weather did nothing to dampen the bright spirits of Lollapalooza's audience and performers.

#5 Governor’s Ball

Aside from the music, The Governors Ball Music Festival's food lineup is such a highlight it commands its own hashtag. Curated by restaurant blog The Inflatuation, #govballeeeeeats is not one to browse on an empty stomach.

#4 Made In America

Buoyed by power couple Nicki Minaj and Meek Mill performing on stage together while Santigold cruised around filming her "Who Be Lovin Me" music video, Jay-Z co-founded festival Made In America produced another melting pot year of hip hop, rock, pop, R&B and EDM.

#3 Outside Lands

Of all the stand-out moments (sets from St Vincent, Angus & Julia Stone, Tame Impala, Elton John and Caribou to name a few), let's take time to appreciate that a 'fast food' Black Sabbath tribute band named Mac Sabbath caused by FAR the biggest storm of Outside Lands 2015.

#2 Austin City Limits

Most people with a broken leg would take a break and kick back, but not Dave Grohl. Rock music's biggest name took to the Austin City Limits stage in a throne, even getting up at one point and running on his crutches to greet fans in the front row.

#1 Coachella 

Coachella 2015's top 3 shows were Alesso, AC/DC and Drake, but if you're looking for sheer social clout then no musician could match the queen of media attention, Paris Hilton. Her selfie with the Coachella crowd became the most liked photo of the #Coachella2015 hashtag this year, dominating feeds and doing wonders for the photographer's account, @fotofetish.
