Blues
Unquestionably one of the most adored, influential, and expressive forms of music in modern history, blues music originated in the Deep South of the United States in the late 19th-century and still resonates globally in all forms of contemporary music.
Rooted in African musical traditions, the genre was embraced by white artists like Elvis in the 1950s, and latterly by British-invasion bands The Rolling Stones, The Who, and Led Zeppelin the following decade. The subsequent sprawl of artists and genres following from those eras owe its origins to the spirit of blues music after its unquestionable mainstream impact.
Blues is alive and well within the festival domain, with landmark festivals such as RBC Ottawa Bluesfest a current example of the genre's lasting popularity and legacy.
