Mad Cool Festival Announce First Two Headliners for 2017

Mad Cool Festival have today announced the first two headliners for 2017, looking to build on the phenomenal debut that earned them a Best Major Festival nomination at this year's European Festival Awards.

Given the fact that the debut edition of the festival didn't pull any punches when it came to the lineup, welcoming genuine rock icons Neil Young and The Who as well as a whole host of other global stars, it should come as no surprise that the headliners for 2017 are two of rock music's biggest names.

Foo Fighters

Put simply, one of the biggest and best headline bands in the world. You know that Dave Grohl and co are going to deliver a barnstorming performance no matter what stage they find themselves on.

Although the band announced earlier in 2016 that they would be taking an 'indefinite hiatus', rumours were rife that they would be announced for Mad Cool 2017 for a number of reasons:

1.  They were recently announced as headliner for NOS Alive'17 in neighbouring Portugal (taking place across the same weekend).
   
   
2. The band had launched a new 'Foo Fighters Passport' website basically confirming further European dates.
   
   
3. Mad Cool festival shared a teaser image that some eagle-eyed fans noticed looked very similar to a close-up segment of the Foo Fighters logo

Surprise or not, there's no denying that this is an incredibly strong booking for a festival still only in its second year.

Green Day

Another of modern rock's biggest names, the California punk trio are hitting the road for a global tour, taking in an ever-growing number of European festival appearances along the way.

The tour – and headline appearance at Mad Cool – follow the recent release of Revolution Radio, the band's latest album that comes a full four years after the previous ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, ¡Tré! trilogy.

30 years and 12 albums on from forming as a band, it's safe to say Green Day are headline material.
