Balaton Sound: The Best Photos Throughout The Years

It was sorely missed, but Balaton Sound has put minds to ease by recently confirming it's returning next year: from 29 June - 2 July in 2022, Zamárdi in Hungary will once again become a hedonistic cocktail of beach and boat parties, carnival atmosphere, and dance music superstars.

Part rave, part circus, Balaton Sound has established its reputation as one of Europe's biggest lakeside parties over the course of its 15 year history. Though it leaned more into the underground during its infancy, the festival's head is firmly the mainstream music parapet these days, inviting chart-toppers and beat-droppers galore in the years since its inaugural edition in 2007.

The last time they turned the volume up on their no frills, EDM-centric festival frolic back in 2019, tens of thousands of ravers from across the continent descended on the picturesque Lake Balaton to see Tïesto, Marshmello, Armin Van Buuren, The Chainsmokers, J Balvin, Future and more big-hitters spanning pop, hip-hop, and dance music. 

Brought to you from the minds behind Sziget, they know how to concoct a universal atmosphere with music that's loved universally, and they know they're on to something good.

Waiting with baited breath until they drop the first names for 2022's edition, here's a look back at why Balaton Sound is referred to as a 'paradise'. We couldn't agree more.
