World
Ethnomusicologist of Wesleyan University, Robert Brown, coined the term 'world music' in the 1960s to describe the sound that has come out of the West taking musical culture influence from the rest of the world, putting those 'exotic' styles into the Western mainstream, and making it their own. World originally mainly took from traditional folk music, but it's been influenced by all genres. World music often includes indigenous instruments such as steel drums, the sitar, or the West African Harp.
World festivals include the likes of Worldwide Festival, Nova Batida, Beyond Sahara and Inasound Festival.
Artists such as James Holden, La Fraicheur, Kiasmos, and Daphni can be seen playing at a number of World festivals.
