Punk
Punk originated in the late 1960s and derived from rock, however, it immediately had a much more aggressive presence, promoting anti-establishment and individual freedom ideals.
Punk also invested a lot of energy into sexuality - whether that had to do with gender, sexual orientation, or being involved with sex work - punk encouraged people to put these taboos at the forefront of their interactions with the world.
In more recent years, pop punk has become a highly listened to genre, with artists like Paramore and My Chemical Romance bringing this sub-genre to the mainstream.
Punk festivals include the likes of Bay Fest, Mission Ready Festival and Community Festival.
Artists such as Dropkick Murphys, Wizo and The Vaccines can be seen playing at a number of Punk festivals.
