One of Portugal's oldest heavy metal festivals
SWR Barroselas Metalfest is one of Portugal's oldest and most respected heavy metal festivals. Fresh from celebrating its 20th edition in 2017, the extreme three day affair will return once again.
The festival's lineup unites global metallers, with recent editions welcoming bands from across Europe, USA, South America and North Africa, including such heavy-hitters as Napalm Death, Marduk, Metal Church and Shining.
Once more, thousands of heavy metal fans from all around the world will make their annual pilgrimage towards the peaceful village in northeastern Portugal for one of the oldest festivals of its kind.

Located around 15km from Viano do Castelo in the northwest of Portugal, Barraselos first hosted the festival back in 1998.

FAQs
BY PLANE: Porto Airport is the closest to the festival. From there, catch a train to Porto Campanhã and then another on to Barroselas.
BY TRAIN: You can reach Barroselas directly by rail from both Porto (Campanhã) and from Viana do Castelo. If travelling from further inland (Braga, for example), you will most likely need to change at either Nine or Trofa.
BY CAR:
From the south, take the A1 highway towards Porto. After the last toll go straight to IC1/Ponte da Arrábida and then turn right towards A28/Viana do Castelo. Turn right to Neiva/Braga/Barcelos and at the roundabout follow to EN13/Zona Industrial and after 5km turn right to Barroselas (EN308).
From the north, take the P1/A3 towards Porto and get out at the Corvos/Anais toll. Follow through EN201 until Corvos, and from there take the EN308 to Barroselas.
From inland, follow signs to A11/Barcelos, then take the EN103 to Viana do Castelo and turn right after about 5km, heading to the EN305 to Barroselas.
