CITY OF IRON

Mirror balls hang from trusses, and flame throwers perch on control cabins, amidst rusting industrial excavators. Between monumental steel hulks of mining machinery, Melt! attracts a multinational audience of music lovers to its mix of indie rock and house/techno artists. With the main stages going from 3pm to 7am, and a Sleepless Floor open continuously into the following Monday, crowds are kept happy with crystal clear, bone-shaking soundsystems. After partying all night, by day people relax by swimming in the lake or chilling in the well-spaced out campsite.

Working as a opencast coal mine until the early nineties, Ferropolis has been transformed into a living museum to industrial heritage. Thanks to colloboration with the Bauhaus Dessau, five monumental bucket excavators have been preserved, on a spit of land in the now-flooded mine. The campsite lines the water, allowing for lazy days by the lake.

The small town of Gräfenhainichen is 20 minutes walk from Ferropolis; Dessau is half an hour's drive, with rail connections to Berlin.
