The UK's longest-running music festival

Isle of Wight Festival is the UK's longest-running music festival, and remains one of the most popular in Europe. Each year it brings around 90,000 music fans to the island for a weekend of iconic rock stars, underground dance acts and everything in between.

2019's festival will welcome sets from Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, George Ezra, Biffy Clyro, Courteeners, Fatboy Slim and many more.

Born in 1968 and still rocking out strong 50 years later, Isle of Wight Festival has lived through decades of musical and cultural change, always staying relevant and incredibly popular. Just a handful of the greats to have headlined its hallowed main stage are Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones and The Who.

Great for families, the lineup also includes a diverse programme of theatre, film, comedy, activities and games, stretching across four days and a huge, unique location.

And beyond the festival's gates, those wishing to turn the trip into a longer holiday will find an island offering all kinds of extra activities, including walking, cycling, horse riding, kayaking, sailing and much, much more.

This year's festival theme is Summer of '69 – Peace and Love, so don your favourite fancy dress and enjoy performances from the likes of Simply Dylan.

FAQs

Getting to the Isle of Wight is very simple. All you need to do is get yourself to one of the four mainland ferry ports at Southampton, Portsmouth, Lymington or Southsea.

Southampton: Red Funnel offers two services: the ferry from Southampton to East Cowes or the Red Jet from Southampton to West Cowes. There are bus stations at both Cowes’ terminals where you can catch the bus to take you directly to the festival if you are on foot.

Portsmouth & Lymington: Wightlink operates two services, one from Lymington to Yarmouth (35min crossing) and the other from Portsmouth to Fishbourne (45min crossing). There are bus stations at both island terminals where you can catch the bus to take you directly to festival.

Southsea: Hovertravel operates a hovercraft service - only for those on foot - from Southsea to Ryde. A bus service is available in Ryde for transport to the festival. Alternatively, there are taxi services running from all ports if you'd rather take one instead of the bus.

Journey times vary depending on where you are catching the ferry from. For example, a journey from Southampton can be as short as 23 minutes on the high speed service, while the journey time from Portsmouth to Fishbourne is around 45 minutes.

The quickest time is via Hovercraft from Southsea. The crossing should take only 10 minutes.

All ages can attend Isle of Wight Festival, and those under 12 get in for free – but they must still be booked in advance.
