The legend lives on – and keeps getting better

Isle of Wight Festival's colourful carnival of indie, rock, pop and electronic music is back for a 14th round since its celebrated modern reboot.

With a legendary history that holds it as the Woodstock of the UK, Isle of Wight Festival's first three events, between 1968 and 1970, were a real landmark in British music culture, amassing crowds of 600,000 and even giving Jimi Hendrix his last ever gig. The festival was so popular that parliament passed a law preventing the event from happening again, but the name lived on. 2002 saw an end to the long wait, and Isle of Wight Festival was reborn.

True to its past, Isle of Wight Festival continues to put on the biggest names in rock, but has embraced other styles too: Biffy Clyro, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Kings of Leon were joined by Calvin Harris in lighting up the main stage in 2014.

Alongside the music, a cartload of comedy, cabaret, poetry, quizzes and a fairground join in the party, filling every available gap and time slot. It was a huge ask, but every year Isle of Wight Festival has lived up to its reputation, and has grown and evolved in exactly the right ways.

Seaclose Park is a large open space just north of Newport, the Isle of Wight's biggest town. The park is on the eastern banks of the River Medina.

FAQs

Southampton airport is just under 5 miles from Red Funnel Terminal 1. Trains leave the airport towards Bournemouth every 20 mins, and will take you the 8 minute journey to Southampton Central. Outside the station, a U1 bus will take you to the terminal.

Normal ferry crossing times to East Cowes are once per hour for the 60 minute journey. However, during the festival the operators schedule extra crossings to meet the high demand. A single will cost you £8.70, or a return £17.40, and family tickets also available.

From the East Cowes Terminal, line 5 buses leave every 10 minutes in the direction of Newport. The Fairlee stop is about 15 minutes away, and is a very short walk from Seaclose Park.

£15 in advance or £20 on the door for the weekend. Single day parking is £10.

Everyone with a weekend pass can come on Thursday night and enjoy the entertainment. Day ticket holders must come only on the day for which their ticket is valid.

All ages can attend Isle of Wight Festival, and those under 12 get in for free – but they must still be booked in advance.

For campers, the grounds open at 12:00 on Thursday the 11th June. The campsite closes at 14:00 on Monday 15th June.

For non-campers, the festival opens at 14:00 on Friday 12th June.
