With over 1,000 acts and performances booked each year, Sziget is one of the largest music festivals in Europe, taking over the picturesque Óbuda Island in the middle of the River Danube.

Winning countless awards and dubbed by many as the 'European alternative to Burning Man', the line-up is a delightful surprise each year, touching on all musical genres from metal to pop.

No day is ever the same at Sziget either. It's an event that is seen as an amusement park for festival fans, bursting with various colourful and exciting distractions from reality.

Yes, Festivalcard is the valid currency at Sziget Festival. Merchants will not accept cash.

You can only disable registered cards, and your balance can only be transferred from one card to another if it is registered. Lost or stolen cards can only be disabled if they have been registered previously. 

Sziget Festival is very easy to reach using local HÉV trains which depart from Batthyány tér in the centre of Budapest. Alight at Filatorigát for the festival. Return trains run throughout the weekend, including at night.

Yes, but organisers ask festival-goers to not drive to the Óbudai Island event site if possible. Instead there are trains (see previous question) that go to the festival. Boats also depart from Batthyány, Jászai and Petőfi square to the festival site.

Budapest International Airport is about 17km from the city centre. A taxi will cost around 6500 HUF (22 EUR) into the city, but there are also trains that run there too. With Terminal 1 currently closed, you must take the 200E bus from Terminal 2 to Ferihegy Railway Station. From there, the train will take 25 minutes into Budapest Nyugati Railway Station and cost 320 HUF (1 EUR).
