Before she took on the name of FKA twigs, from a nickname she was given by virtue of her joints cracking, Tahliah Debrett Barnett started out in her teenage years as a dancer, appearing in music videos by the likes of Kylie Minogue, Ed Sheeran, Jessie J, Wretch 32, Plan B and more.
For anyone lucky enough to have seen her live shows – either on tour at one of her many festival appearances – this dance background should come as no surprise, her movement and choreography playing a huge role in her captivating stage presence.
But while the dancing may play a significant role, it's the mesmerising and often indefinable music that really elevates FKA twigs to the position of one of the UK's most artistically inventive and respected figures. Whether that's from her Mercury Prize nominated debut from 2014, the critically acclaimed follow-up Magdalene from 2019, or one of her similarly beloved EPs.
